In Tri Force Heroes, the fashion-loving kingdom of Hytopia is in trouble. A jealous witch from the Drablands has cursed Princess Styla to wear a hideous, unremovable jumpsuit, and the princess has shut herself away in the castle. King Tuft calls for heroes, and the legend says three of them, working together, can cross the dangerous Drablands and break the curse. It's the same Link as in A Link Between Worlds.

How It Plays

  • Three heroes: each stage is played by three Links in green, red and blue, online or in local play. Two players aren't supported in the main mode.
  • The totem: the heroes can stack on each other's shoulders. The top hero can reach high switches and enemies, and heroes can throw each other across gaps.
  • Shared hearts: all three heroes share one heart meter, and running out costs the whole team a fairy.
  • Items: each stage hands the team a set of items, such as bows, bombs and Water Rods, and the heroes have to use them together to get through.
  • Playing alone: one player can take on the stages with two Doppels, doll-like stand-ins that you switch between.
  • Outfits: materials collected in the Drablands are used to make outfits. Each one gives a special ability, such as a stronger item, extra hearts or more stamina.

The game also includes the competitive Coliseum mode. A free update in December 2015 added the Den of Trials, a long dungeon in which you must defeat every enemy on each stage to move on, along with two new outfits.
