Walkthrough

This walkthrough covers the main quest of Echoes of Wisdom, from Zelda's escape to the final battle with Null. You can choose the order of some regions: after the first dungeon, Jabul Waters and the Gerudo Desert can be done in either order, and after Hyrule Castle the same is true of Eldin, Faron and Holy Mount Lanayru. See the Bosses page for full boss strategies.

A few basics before you start:

  • Echoes: point the Tri Rod at an object or a defeated monster to learn its echo, then create a copy of it whenever you need one. Each echo costs some of Tri's triangles, and you can only have a limited number out at once. Beds, boxes and water blocks become stairs, bridges and swimming pools; monster echoes fight for you.
  • Bind: attach the Tri Rod to an object to drag it around. Reverse Bind (learned in the first dungeon) lets Zelda move along with the object instead.
  • Swordfighter Form: for a limited time, Zelda can fight with Link's sword (and later his bow and bombs). The time is shown on a gauge, and blue energy refills it.
  • Rifts and the Still World: each region's rift leads into a twisted Still World, where the region's dungeon is found. Clearing it closes the rift.

1. The Rifts Appear

  1. The game opens with Link battling Ganon to save Princess Zelda. Then a rift swallows Link, and it's up to Zelda to save Hyrule.
  2. Zelda escapes and meets a fairy named Tri, who gives her the Tri Rod. With it, she learns to copy the echoes of objects around her.

2. Suthorn Ruins

  1. Tri opens a way into the Stilled Suthorn Forest, inside the rift, where the Suthorn Ruins lie.
  2. Use Strandtula echoes to climb on their silk, braziers and Ignizols to light torches, and Bind and Reverse Bind to move boulders and ride platforms. Find the Dungeon Map, the Small Key and the Big Key.
  3. A dark swordsman blocks the way. Defeat him with your monster echoes, and he leaves behind the Mysterious Sword, which unlocks Swordfighter Form.
  4. Boss: Seismic Talus. Take the Heart Container. Tri grows stronger and can carry more echoes at once.

3. Jabul Waters and the Jabul Ruins

  1. The River Zoras and Sea Zoras of Jabul Waters are feuding. Settle it, and they open Jabu-Jabu's Den, where an impostor Jabu-Jabu attacks. Feed it Bombfish echoes when it takes a deep breath, then hit it in Swordfighter Form.
  2. Swim into the rift to the Stilled Jabul Waters and the Jabul Ruins, an underwater dungeon. Bubbles refill your dive meter, Bombfish blow up boxes, and water blocks let you swim through the air. Activate the five water spouts to rise through the dungeon.
  3. Boss: Vocavor. Take the Heart Container and 5 Might Crystals.

4. Gerudo Desert and the Gerudo Sanctum

  1. Remove the seal in the Cryptic Cavern to reach the Gerudo Sanctum. Buy Gerudo Sandals in Gerudo Town if you can; they stop you sinking in quicksand.
  2. Inside, use Wind Cannons, conveyor belts, flying tiles and turning doors. Riddles on the walls describe statues (cat, elephant, snake and hawk), whose echoes you learn here. Place the right statues on the glowing tiles to open the way. The riddles change each game.
  3. Defeat the Mothulas and the ghost, then the Dark Archer, who leaves the Bow of Might. In Swordfighter Form, you can now fire arrows.
  4. Boss: Mogryph. Take the Heart Container and 5 Might Crystals. Tri can now create echoes at a distance.

5. Hyrule Castle

With two regions healed, the trail leads back to Hyrule Castle. Boss: Ganon. Dodge his trident and strike back, and bounce his fireballs back at him in Swordfighter Form. Take the Heart Container. Defeating him begins the quest to rescue Link.

6. Eldin Volcano and the Eldin Temple

  1. Make your way through the Stilled Eldin Volcano to the Eldin Temple. Ride the lava spouts with lava rock echoes, use flying echoes on the air vents, and block the vents with statues and boulders. After you take the Big Key, the lava rises; escape by climbing a Strandtula's silk.
  2. Defeat the Dark Bomberman by throwing his bombs back at him. He leaves the Bombs of Might, so you can throw bombs in Swordfighter Form.
  3. Boss: Volvagia. Take the Heart Container, 5 Might Crystals and Din's Sanction.

7. Faron Wetlands and the Faron Temple

  1. Cross the Stilled Faron Wetlands to the Faron Temple. Burn away the spider webs, solve the Armos switch puzzles, and power the crystals with Buzz Blobs and Electric Wizzrobes. You need two Small Keys to reach the Big Key.
  2. Mid-boss: a plant monster with two heads, and later four. Get it to swallow your echoes and bombs to stun it, then hit the glowing orbs on its necks.
  3. Boss: Gohma. Take the Heart Container, 5 Might Crystals and Farore's Sanction.

8. Holy Mount Lanayru and the Lanayru Temple

  1. Climb to the top of Hebra Mountain and cross the clouds of the Stilled mountain to the Lanayru Temple. Keep the glowing objects warm as you carry them to their pedestals, and block the icy winds with boulders, ice blocks and statues. You learn the White Wolfos echo here.
  2. Mid-boss: a green slime in the hot spring. Freeze it with an ice monster echo such as an Ice Wizzrobe, then attack it. It splits into smaller slimes.
  3. Boss: Skorchill. Take the Heart Container, 5 Might Crystals and Lanayru's Sanction.

9. The Stilled Ancient Ruins and Null

  1. With the goddesses' Sanctions gathered, follow the echo to the Eternal Forest and solve its ancient riddle to reach the Stilled Ancient Ruins.
  2. Mid-boss: Echo Zelda. A dark copy of Zelda creates her own echoes. Defeat them to collect energy, then attack her. Once she's beaten, free Link from the crystal.
  3. Make your way through Null's body, where shadowy Lynels guard the path, and jump into the hole to face Null in the final battle.

Congratulations, you've finished Echoes of Wisdom! Your save file gets a star, and the Notebook and map now show how many echoes and Pieces of Heart you've found. The Deku Tree can tell you which regions to revisit for missing echoes.
