Bosses

Twilight Princess has nine dungeons, and every dungeon has both a mini-boss and a boss. The mini-boss guards the dungeon's main item, and you'll need that item to beat the boss. Every dungeon boss except Ganondorf leaves behind a Heart Container. This page covers each fight in the order you meet it.

A note on versions: the Wii version (and Hero Mode in the Wii U HD version) is a mirror image of the GameCube and Wii U versions. Boss fights work the same in every version.

Twilit Bosses (Twilight areas)

Twilit Carrier Kargarok (Lake Hylia, as Wolf Link)
A Shadow Beast rides this giant bird and shoots flaming arrows at you. Dodge the arrows, and when the bird swoops close, jump onto it and bite the rider off.

Twilit Bloat (Lake Hylia, as Wolf Link)
This huge bug hovers above the water. Jump up and bite its abdomen. When its tentacles reach out around you, use Midna's energy field to hit them all at once.

Forest Temple

Mini-boss: Ook
The baboon leader swings across the pillars throwing his boomerang at you, while Baba Serpents get in the way. Defeat the Baba Serpents, then roll into the pillar Ook is standing on to knock him off balance. When his boomerang comes back and knocks him down, slash him. He drops the Gale Boomerang.

Boss: Twilit Parasite Diababa
Diababa has a main head and two smaller heads. Use the Gale Boomerang to lock onto the Bomblings in the room and carry them into the mouths of the heads; each explosion knocks a head down. Throwing the boomerang just before a head spits poison also stops the attack. Once the side heads are gone, Ook swings in with more Bomblings to help. When the main head collapses, its eye is exposed. Slash the eye, and repeat until Diababa is defeated.
Reward: Heart Container and the first Fused Shadow.

Goron Mines

Mini-boss: Dangoro
This armored Goron fights on a platform surrounded by lava. Jump-attack his belly when he's open, and back off after two or three hits. When he curls up and rolls at you, put on the Iron Boots so he can't push you, grab him, and throw him into the lava. He drops the Hero's Bow.

Boss: Twilit Igniter Fyrus
Fyrus is a giant chained in the middle of a lava-filled room. Shoot the gem on his forehead with the Hero's Bow to stun him. While he's dazed, put on the Iron Boots, grab one of the chains on his legs and pull until he falls over, then slash the gem. Repeat until he's defeated. The Wooden Shield will burn here; the Hylian Shield blocks all of his fire.
Reward: Heart Container and the second Fused Shadow.

Lakebed Temple

Mini-boss: Deku Toad
Cut down the tadpoles that fall from its back, and run away from its shadow when it leaps so it can't crush you. When its tongue is out, slash it. Dropping a bomb into its mouth speeds the fight up. It drops the Clawshot.

Boss: Twilit Aquatic Morpheel
Wear the Zora Armor and Iron Boots for this fight.

  1. Morpheel waits in a pit in the middle of the room. Watch its tentacles for the eye moving inside them. Clawshot the eye to pull it out, then strike it. Repeat until the first phase ends.
  2. Morpheel then swims free in the open water. Take off the Iron Boots, swim up behind its head, and Clawshot the eye to pull yourself in. Strike the eye, then repeat until Morpheel is defeated.

Reward: Heart Container and the last Fused Shadow.

Arbiter's Grounds

Mini-boss: Death Sword
Cut the ropes holding the seals, then switch to Wolf Link and use your senses to see the invisible Death Sword. Shoot it with arrows while it floats, and when it gets its sword stuck in the floor, attack it. It drops the Spinner.

Boss: Twilit Fossil Stallord

  1. Ride the Spinner around the rails on the edge of the arena and ram into Stallord's spine. Three hits finish the first phase.
  2. Use the Spinner on the central platform to raise it, then ride the rails on the walls and ram Stallord's floating skull. When it falls, slash it. The Ending Blow doesn't work on Stallord.

Reward: Heart Container. Behind the arena lies the Mirror Chamber.

Snowpeak Ruins

Mini-boss: Darkhammer
Get around behind this armored brute by rolling past it or Clawshotting behind it, and attack its exposed tail. Two Bomb Arrows or a Mortal Draw also take it down quickly. It drops the Ball and Chain.

Boss: Twilit Ice Mass Blizzeta
Use the Ball and Chain to smash the ice surrounding Blizzeta. Watch the floor for glinting shadows and move away from them before the icicles land. When she falls into the circle on the floor, hit her. Repeat three times.
Reward: Heart Container and a shard of the Mirror of Twilight.

Temple of Time

Mini-boss: Darknut
Make the Darknut guard, then get behind it and slash its back to break its armor; Back Slices work very well here. Once its armor is gone, it fights faster with a lighter sword. It drops the Dominion Rod.

Boss: Twilit Arachnid Armogohma
Armogohma clings to the ceiling. Shoot its eye with an arrow when it opens to bring it down. While it's on the ground, use the Dominion Rod to control the statue in the room and smash it. Repeat three times, then chase down and destroy the small eye that runs around the floor.
Reward: Heart Container and a shard of the Mirror of Twilight.

City in the Sky

Mini-boss: Aeralfos
Use the Clawshot to pull the shield out of its hand, which drags it out of the air, then slash it. It drops the second Clawshot, giving you the Double Clawshots.

Boss: Twilit Dragon Argorok

  1. While Argorok is armored, wait for it to swoop low, Clawshot its tail, and put on the Iron Boots to drag it into the ground. Repeat until its armor breaks.
  2. Without its armor, Argorok flies higher. Use the Double Clawshots and the Peahats to climb to the tops of the towers. When Argorok comes close, get onto its back and attack the gem there. In later rounds it breathes fire in more than one direction, so keep moving.

Reward: Heart Container and the last shard of the Mirror of Twilight.

Palace of Twilight

Mini-boss: Phantom Zant
You meet a phantom copy of Zant in each wing of the palace. Clear out the shadow creatures it summons and attack it when it stops moving.

Boss: Zant
Zant warps the fight through arenas from earlier dungeons, and each one calls for that dungeon's item:

  1. Forest Temple: block his magic with your shield, and pull him in with the Gale Boomerang, then attack.
  2. Goron Mines: put on the Iron Boots so he can't knock you off the magnetic platform. When he stops, charge in.
  3. Lakebed Temple: underwater, wear the Zora Armor and Iron Boots. Clawshot him when he comes out from under his helmet.
  4. Ook's arena: roll into the pillar he's standing on to knock him down, then attack.
  5. Snowpeak Ruins: Zant grows to a giant size. Hit his feet with the Ball and Chain until he shrinks, then use your sword.
  6. Final round: Zant spins wildly and can't be hurt while spinning. Block, and strike when he stops to catch his breath.

Reward: Heart Container and the Fused Shadows.

Hyrule Castle: Ganondorf

  1. Puppet Zelda: Ganondorf possesses Zelda. Knock her energy balls back with your sword, like a game of tennis, until they hit her. Dodge her charges.
  2. Dark Beast Ganon: shoot the glowing scar on the beast's forehead with an arrow, then attack the weak spot on its belly. In the second part of the fight, as Wolf Link, grab its snout to flip it over, then strike the belly.
  3. On horseback: ride Epona with Zelda behind you. Stay close to Ganondorf so Zelda can hit him with Light Arrows, then charge in and use Spin Attacks while he's stunned.
  4. Sword duel: lock on and use the Hidden Skills you've learned: Shield Attacks, Back Slices and Jump Strikes all work well. Keep pressing the attack whenever he's stunned until the duel ends.
