Link starts Twilight Princess with three hearts and can build up to twenty. There are 45 Pieces of Heart to find, and every five you collect add one heart, for nine extra hearts in total. The other eight hearts come from the Heart Containers left behind by the dungeon bosses. Many pieces can't be reached until you have a certain item, so if one is out of reach, come back later.
