Jovani, a Castle Town man who sold his soul to a Poe for riches, has been turned to solid gold along with his cat, Gengle. To free him you need to bring back the souls of the 60 Imp Poes that roam Hyrule. Poes start appearing once you have the Master Sword, after the Lakebed Temple.
A note on versions: the Wii version (and Hero Mode in the Wii U HD version) is a mirror image of the GameCube and Wii U versions, so this page describes each Poe by its landmarks rather than by compass direction. Where a direction is given, it is for GameCube and Wii U normal mode.
How to Catch a Poe
- Poes are invisible to Link. Change into a wolf and use your senses to see them. Most give themselves away with their lantern, which you can see glowing from a distance.
- Attack the Poe until it collapses, then press the button shown on screen to tear its soul out.
- Outdoor Poes only appear at night. Poes in dungeons, caves, grottos and the Cave of Ordeals are there at any time of day.
- A Poe can steal some of your life when it hits you, so keep your hearts topped up.
Jovani's Rewards
- 20 Poe Souls: a bottle of Great Fairy's Tears. In the Wii U HD version you also get the Ghost Lantern, which glows when a Poe is nearby.
- 60 Poe Souls: Jovani is fully cured and gives you a Silver Rupee (200 Rupees). After that, talk to Gengle on later visits and he'll keep giving you Rupees.
To get back into Jovani's house, go to the alley full of cats off Castle Town's south road and dig into the house as a wolf at the spot by the wall.
