Items & Equipment

Kokiri Sword

Kokiri Sword

The Kokiri Sword is Link's very first blade. It's one of the treasures of the Kokiri and thus hidden within the village. The sword isn't terrible large - almost a knife instead - but it is the perfect size for child Link.

Master Sword

Master Sword

The Master Sword is the only weapon that can defeat the King of Evil. The almighty weapon is perfect for an adult Link and you will be using it for a good portion of the game. It is located in the Temple of Time but locked behind a door that requires all three Spirtual Stones to open.

Biggoron's Sword

Biggoron's Sword

The Biggoron's Sword is larger and more powerful than even the legendary Master Sword - twice as powerful, in fact. It's major drawback though is due to it's large size, Link has to use both hands to wield it which means he loses the ability to also use a shield. However the extra damage dealt by the Biggoron's Sword can end a fight fater, making a shield less necessary.

Deku Shield

Deku Shield

Crafted from the wood of the mighty Deku Tree, the Deku Shield is the first shield that Link obtains. It is very vulnerable to fire and will be destroyed if it gets near a flame. You buy it for 40 rupees in the Kokiri Shop.

Hylian Shield

Hylian Shield

Your second shield and most used. It at least can withstand heat elements, but as a kid it's pretty useless except in Dodongo's Cavern. You can buy it in the shop in Hyrule Castle Market as a kid or you can find it beneath a grave in the graveyard for free. As an adult it's available in Kakariko Village and Kokiri Forest.

Mirror Shield

Mirror Shield

The Mirror Shield can reflect sunlight and energy with it's polished surface and could illuminate evil as well. One of my favorite items from the game and you find it in the Spirit Temple.

Kokiri Tunic

Kokiri Tunic

The green Kokiri Tunic is the typical dress of a Kokiri, the children of the forest. When Link first wakes from his nightmare, he'll be wearing this tunic. It also has the strange property of growing with Link when he becomes an adult.

Goron Tunic

Goron Tunic

Hylians mined Death Mountain for rupees and delivered the rocks they unearthed to the hungry Gorons. Since the temperature near the crater was too hot for Hylians to handle, the Gorons made them protective suits made from a sporty blend of Dodngo hides and Bomb Flower bibers. This tunic is given to adult Link when he is able to stop the Goron child from rolling in Goron City.

Zora Tunic

Zora Tunic

The Zoras served the King of Hyrule by supplying sacred water from their river. To purify it, the king's Hylian water inspectors of ten needed to cleanse the riverbed of pollutants. To help them breathe under water, the Zoras outfitted the Hylians with suits of fish gills. Adult Link can receive this tunic by unfreezing King Zora with a blue flame.

Kokiri Boots

Kokiri Boots

The boots you start out wearing and much like the Kokiri Tunic, there is nothing special about it.

Iron Boots

Iron Boots

Even with their Zora Tunics, Hylians could not stay underwater for long. The people had a tendency to float, so they forged heavy boots of iron to keep their feet planted on the sea floor. Travelers also found the footwear handy for walking against strong winds. These are received in the Ice Cavern.

Hover Boots

Hover Boots

These boots have the impressive ability to allow you to stay suspending for approximately two seconds - they give that extra amount of flooring needed to get over wide pits. However, it is not advised you make them your normal foot wear as they have problems gaining traction and you slide very easily as if on ice. These are found in the Shadow Temple.

Deku Sticks

Deku Sticks

The Deku Stick is a common item used both as a weapon and as a tool. You can use swing it like your sword, but it tends to break easily. It is far more useful to use these to light torches or to start a fire. Deku Babas would commonly leave these behind when killed, or you can find them in the shops.

Fairy Slingshot

Fairy Slingshot

Used by Child Link, the Fairy Slingshot is a long-range weapon that you find in the Deku Tree. It uses Deku Seeds as ammunition which can be found in bushes, or under rocks. The Fairy Slingshot is very useful inside the Deku Tree against Skulltulas and other fearsome enemies.

Boomerang

Boomerang

The Boomerang is actually an ancient invention, and Hylians were famous for their skill in both making and using it. It is used most often to stun or defeat enemies. It is found inside of Jabu-Jabu's Belly.

Deku Nuts

Deku Nuts

When thrown, Deku Nuts explode with a flash bright enough to stun some enemies. Can be found under stones, in bushes, or even some enemies will drop these for you.

Fairy Ocarina

Fairy Ocarina

An ocarina is a flute-like musical instrument. The Fairy Ocarina is a memento given to you by Saria as you leave the forest after completing the Deku Tree dungeon. With this item you will be able to play the many magical songs you learn.

Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time

Thrown to you by Princess Zelda when you go to meet her after your quest to find the Spiritual Stones. The Ocarina of Time replaces the Fairy Ocarina and with this instrument you have the power of opening the Door of Time in the Temple of Time.

Lens of Truth

Lens of Truth

Found in the well in Kakariko Village after you've drained the well of it's water. This lens has the amazing ability to allow you to peer through fake walls and see invisible items. Using this item consumes small amount of your magic power over time.

Bombs

Bombs

One of the many staples of the Zelda series, you first find the Bomb Flowers on Death Mountain. To be able to pick Bomb Flowers, Darunia gives Link the Goron's Bracelet. You need the Bomb Bag from Dodongo's Cavern to keep a supply of Bombs on Link.

Bombchu

Bombchu

The Bombchu is a mechanical mouse that Link can use to carry a bomb to a target that is out of reach. The Bombchu can climb up walls and reach other areas that Link can't. As child Link, you can buy these from a shop in the back alley of Hyrule Castle Market at night. As an adult, you come across these in chests.

Magic Beans

Magic Beans

These are being sold by the Magic Bean Seller at Zora's River and only 10 seeds are available. The price increases by ten after each Magic Bean is sold. Their only purpose is to plant them in soft soil plots as child Link and to ride the plant later as an adult to reach previous unaccessable areas.

Fairy Bow

Fairy Bow

When Link reaches adulthood, he is unable to use his Slingshot. Instead, he is able to use the more powerful Fairy Bow once he finds it in the Forest Temple. It is able to shoot three types of magical arrows.

Fire Arrow

Fire Arrow

The Fire Arrow shoots a large fireball and explodes on contact. These are useful at melting ice and lighting torches. Shoot an arrow into the sun in the morning at Lake Hylia to make the arrow appear on a platform, but make sure the Lake is filled with water again or you won't be able to reach the platform.

Ice Arrow

Ice Arrow

The Ice Arrow is useful at freezing enemies, encasing them inside a immobling block of ice. This is given to Link as the ultimate prize in the Gerudo Training Center.

Hearts

Light Arrow

The Light Arrow requires twice the magic power of the Fire and Ice arrows, but caused more damage to enemies and is the ultimate weapon against evil. It is given to you by Princess Zelda once you have acquired all the spiritual stones.

Hookshot

Hookshot

The hookshot is a hook attached to the end of a long chain. Link can use this as a weapon or as a grapple to grab objects or to swing across gaps. The find the Hookshot, adult Link must enter Dampé's Grave where Dample challenges Link to a race. If Link is able to keep up with Dampé, Dampé will reward Link with the Hookshot.

Longshot

Longshot

Almost exactly the same as the Hookshot, but the chain reaches out a far greater distance (hence the name). It is found inside the Water Temple.

Megaton Hammer

Megaton Hammer

A huge two-handed hammer capable of mass destruction and mayhem. Most useful for pummeling stubborn enemies into submission or for moving blocks and turning rusted switches. You receive this impressive weapon inside the Fire Temple.

Bottles

Bottles

Glass bottles are useful for carrying milk, potions, fairies, or other useful things. There are four bottles to find in the game, and all can be found by following this guide

Din's Fire

Din's Fire

The three goddesses who created the Triforce also left behind three magic spells, which Link can find and master. Din's Fire surrounds Link with a ring of Fire which is useful against groups of enemies. Din's Fairy can be found in the Fairy Fountain outside Hyrule Castle as child Link.

Farore's Wind

Farore's Wind

This spell creates a Warp Point for Link to use later by reusing the spell at any time. Unfortunately it only works for any dungeon that has a map. To find Farore's Wind, you must find the Fairy Fountain in Zora's Fountain (must bomb the wall at the north-east corner).

Nayru's Love

Nayru's Love

The last of the goddesses' spells was called Nayru's Love. This spell creates a crystal around Link that will protect him from all damage for a specific amount of time, however you still can get knocked down by impacts. Nayru's Love can be found in the Fairy Fountain in the Dessert Colossus (bomb the cracked wall marked by two palm trees).

Stone of Agony

Stone of Agony

The Stone of Agony, one of the children's gifts after you've destroyed 20 gold skulltulas, was the companion relic to the Lens of Truth. While the Lens allowed Link to see what normal eyes could not, the Stone allowed him to feel when was near something strange. It would vibrate when near hidden treasures or a secret grotto.

Goron's Bracelet

Goron's Bracelet

The Goron Bracelet imparted great strength to those who wore it. After playing Saria's Song to Darunia, Darunia will receive these from him. While wearing the bracelets, he is able to lift the heavy bomb flowers and throw them at enemies.

Silver Gauntlet

Silver Gauntlets

The Silver Gauntlets were said to contain the power of an army, and because of that, they allow Link to lift much heavier items than he could before. These are hidden inside the Spirit Temple.

Golden Gauntlet

Golden Gauntlets

The Golden Gaunlets give a man the strength to move mountains. Use these to lift the huge stones out of your way. These are found inside Ganon's Castle near the end of the game.

Silver Scale

Silver Scale

The help their landlubber friends swim deeper, the Zoras would give them a gift of scales plucked from the Zora's best divers. This scale allows Link to dive for up to six seconds. To obtain this, you have to beat the Zora's diving game, found in the tunnel next to King Zora.

Gold Scale

Gold Scale

The Gold Scale is an upgraded version of the Silver Scale and allows Link to dive up to nine seconds. To obtain this rare item, you have to catch a LUNKER as adult Link at Lake Hylia's fishing pond.

Gold Skulltula Token

Gold Skulltula Tokens

A curse has befallen a greedy family of Kakariko Village, imprisoning them in mutant arachnid bodies until enough spider tokens can be found to break the spell and free them. Link can find these tokens when he destroys a Gold Skulltula which is hidden throughout the world. Our guide to find all of these is here.

Heart Piece

Heart Pieces

Heart pieces can be found hidden in various places around Hyrule. Gathering four of these would increase Link's life meter by one heart. There are a total of 36 heart pieces in the wild, and our guide to finding them all is here.

Heart Container

Heart Containers

Heart Containers are full sized Heart Pieces and increase Link's life meter by one heart when found. These are obtained after defeating the main bosses in all the dungeons.

Dungeon Map

Dungeon Map

Dungeon Maps are obviously found inside the dungeons. These helpful items will allow you to see where all the rooms are inside a dungeon and together with the Compass prevent Link from getting lost.

Dungeon Map

Magic Jars

Magic Jars replenish Link's magic meter. Magic Jars are dropped by fallen enemies and found in chests. They cannot be stored and they are used as soon as Link touches them.

Compass

Compass

The Compass compliments the Dungeon Maps and can be found in each of the main dungeons of the game. The compass allows Link to know where hidden treasures are, as well as Link himself is located.

Small Key

Small Keys

Numerous Small Keys are found inside the dungeons and are used to open locked doors to enable access to further areas inside the dungeons.

Big Key

Big Keys, or Boss Keys, are used to enter the final area inside a dungeon to fight the main bosses. There is only one of these per dungeon, and are generally found near the end of the level.

Kokiri's Emerald

Kokiri Emerald

The Kokiri Emerald is protected by the Great Deku Tree who refuses to hand it over to Ganondorf. Ganondorf then curses the Great Deku Tree with many monsters and Link is given the task to clear them out. Never-the-less, the Great Deku Tree succumbs to the curse, but not before giving Link the Kokiri Emerald.

Goron's Ruby

Goron's Ruby

The Goron Ruby is withheld by Darunia until Link can blow up the boulder blocking entrance to the Dodongo's Cavern and destroy the evil monsters that have grown inside due to Ganondorf's spells. On completion, Darunia makes Link a "sworn brother" and hands over the Goron's Ruby.

Zora's Sapphire

Zora's Sapphire

The Zora's Sapphire is a Zora "engagement ring" and is in Ruto's possession. Her location happens to be inside the Lord Jabu-Jabu's belly and Link must defeat the monsters inside and save her. Once back outside, Ruto gives Link her Zora's Sapphire and tells Link that they are now engaged.

The Light Medallion is given to Link by Rauru immediately after Link awakens from his seven year sleep. This medallion is meant to represent the power of the ancient Sage of Light.

Forest Medallion

Forest Medallion

The Forest Medallion is the second medallion that Link acquires, and is given by his old friend (but newly-realized) Sage of the Forest, Saria after the completion of the Forest Temple. In the Ocarina of Time 3D, the Forest Medallion only has three of the markings opposed to the four on the original.

Spirit Medallion

Spirit Medallion

The last medallion is given to Link by a surprising choice for the Sage of Spirits, Nabooru. Like the others, she gives this medallion to Link after Link defeats the Spirit Temple and gets the best of Koume and Kotake.
